As U.S. and China enter into tough competition, people in Taiwan are anxious that the new Biden administration might act differently than his predecessor Donald Trump, who started to raise the level of U.S.-China rivalry. Is this kind of worry justified? So far, the Biden administration appears to show a tough stance on China, even tougher than Trump’s first two years in his presidency. Apparently, the power-competing structure between the U.S. and China will not disappear anytime soon. Biden and his team have to deal with this structural contradiction and the repercussion left by his predecessor. So far, Biden’s gesture to China demonstrates that his policy towards China would be no less strict than Trump’s.
