"The KMT believes that the DPP government's cross-strait policy cannot ease thetension with China, while the government views the twin city forum as a possibleloophole for Chinese 'united front work' that poses a threat to Taiwan's securityinterest," said Ian Tsung-yen Chen, professor and director at the Institute ofPolitical Science at National Sun Yat-sen University.
"However, the opposition parties and the local governments they lead still hopethat through closer exchanges and dialogue, China will reduce their hostility.This is the fundamental difference between the two parties," Chen explained.
