Abstract

Economic and trade relations between Taiwan and Australia have fluctuated over the past three decades mainly because the traded goods chiefly comprise primary products, which are subject to the fluctuating global prices of raw materials. Despite the steady increase in the volume of traded goods, the overall value of bilateral trade has had ups and downs. Moreover, due to Australia's high trade interdependence with China, China has often been able to obstruct Australian efforts to develop its economic and trade relations with Taiwan.
