Gerald Chan's China's Health Silk Road: Vaccine Diplomacy and Health Governance presents a comprehensive analysis of China's growing influence in global health governance. The book's eight chapters investigate the multifaceted interplay between China's domestic health advancements, its international health diplomacy, and the broader global governance landscape. At the heart of this analysis is the concept of geo-developmentalism—a framework that emphasizes mutual infrastructure-driven economic growth by fostering connections across the globe. This serves as a pivotal lens throughout the book. Geo-developmentalism underscores China's strategic integration of public health with its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), revealing how health diplomacy operates as a conduit for broader geopolitical and economic objectives.
